Foundation for oily skin: Estee Lauder Double Wear

Sunday, October 02, 2016 Style Me Daring 1 Comments

Ok, so I'm going to level with you guys. I have the oiliest skin ever, I have never seen anyone who suffers with it the way that I do and I have adult acne to boot :( to be honest its sucks.

So you can imagine how hard it is for me to find a foundation that not only gives full coverage that will hide my current breakouts and scars but also stays on my face for more than an hour or two. I have tried so many I had almost given up!

Luckily after watching copious amount of YouTube videos on the subject, I decided to try Estee Lauder's Double Wear foundation. And it's changed my whole makeup game.

I honestly does what it says on the tin, my skin feels matte (which is a novelty to me), it stays in place for hours and it's very high coverage which means I don't have to apply layers upon layers like I usually have to do.

There are some draw backs to this foundation though. Namely the price; it's £31.00 which is a little steep when most of makeup comes from the high street but I'm glad I didn't let that put me off as it really is worth the money.

The other downside is the packaging, it's an open top bottle which means that I always feel like I'm pouring out too much which is obviously not cost effective. I think this foundation would be greatly improved with a pump or in similar packaging to the Estee Lauder Double Wear Light.

Other than those two points I can wholeheartedly say that this foundation is the holy grail for anyone who suffers from oily skin.

P.s. What everyone's favourite eyeshadow primers? My eyelids are also very oily (sigh) so I need one that counteracts this. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated

How to wear makeup to school (without getting caught)

Tuesday, September 27, 2016 Style Me Daring 2 Comments

Yes, yes I know you’re not meant to wear makeup to school but I also know that some people especially teenagers suffer with confidence issues and having a bit of makeup on can make you feel better.

So here is my guide to wearing subtle makeup to school that no one will notice but will just give you that extra bit of confidence, that we all need from time to time.

Review: Benton Snail Bee High Content Sheet Mask

Tuesday, July 05, 2016 Style Me Daring 0 Comments

Today I’m reviewing one of the best skincare products I’ve used in years; Benton Snail Bee High Content Sheet Mask PacksAnd yes before you ask yes they do have snail secretion and bee venom in them.

I know, gross right?!

But honestly once you get over the weirdness of that fact, they are essentially a relaxing sheet mask full of natural ingredients that are great for you skin.

I’ve been using them for a week and half and here are my thoughts so far:

I really only have positive things to say about this product, they feel just like other sheet mask, although I would say the fit is slightly better around the eyes, lips and nose on these than on other ones I have used.

The formula itself is unscented and feels quite thick on the mask meaning there was plenty extra to do my neck and decolletage as well. The instructions on the pack say to leave it on for 30mins but I left mine in for an extra 10 to really let the ingredients get to work.

It was lovely to sit and relax for a bit whilst it was on and once the time is up, I simply removed the mask and rubbed in the excess.  My face felt a little tacky at first but by morning it was beautifully soft and I did think that my skin looked a little firmer with fewer fine lines.

But by far the best thing about this face mask is IT HELPED MY ACNE!

I have tried a lot of products in the last few and I had kind of given up recently because nothing was working and skin was getting worse L it was actually starting to depress me.

However before used this I had a large cystic acne spot the side of my cheek and a couple of quite big spots around my chin as well and I honestly assumed that using this mask would aggravate them. But to my surprise when I got up in the morning the two spots were near enough gone and the cystic one was noticeably smaller!

I thought this might have been a fluke so I waited to use another last night when I had quite a large painful blemish coming up right in the centre of the chin and I got the same result. It was so small (and not painful anymore) I almost thought it had disappeared completely.

I will definitely be using the rest of these and ordering more, I hope these results keep up but I let you know if they stop being a little miracle.

If these are something that you’re interested in you can get them from Amazon 10 masks for around £14.00.

I hope you get the same results!

Designer Dupes: Gianvito Rossi Plexi Pumps

Saturday, May 21, 2016 Style Me Daring 0 Comments

It's time for another instalment of designer dupes and boy do I have a doozy for you! This week I've been tirelessly searching for footwear that resembles the stunning Gianvito Rossi Plexi Pumps.

These shoes are truly in a league of their own, completely unique and stunning. This has by far been the hardest dupe to find but thankfully I did succeed.

Office

My biggest success was without a doubt from Office with these beautiful plexi and suede shoes in Nude, Black and and even a Flat Version for those of you like more who aren't fond of height or blisters.

Starting from just £45.00 you'd have to be a fool not to take advantage of these chic replicas.

Paper Dolls

If colour is more your thing then why not hunt a pair of these Paper Dolls heels with coloured toes, cream back and gold heel. These are certainly statement shoes and will add a touch of pizzazz to any outfit.

You can find the Orange Heels on ASOS right now for only £25.00 but be quick they're selling fast!

I'm still trying to decide which pair are going to grace my closet but I'll let you know which ones I chose.

The Missguided Missbrided Collection

Friday, May 06, 2016 Style Me Daring 0 Comments

The wedding season is upon us and it’s time to start planning your outfit, whether you’re the bride, a bridesmaid or a guest you’ve got to look the part.

Of course there’s also budget to consider as weddings are expensive for everyone involved and the last thing you want to do is blow all your money on a dress, especially if your day has a strict budget or you want to show up with a big present.

Thankfully Missguided has just launched their new wedding range called Missbrided (how perfect is that?) all of which are reasonably priced and drop dead gorgeous.

The Bride

I told you they were stunning and this is just a selection of my favourite three! They range from £85 to £150 which is certainly better than forking out thousands at a bridal shop. I adore the simple designs and thing they would make any bride feel as beautiful as possible on her wedding day.

I would order now though if you want one; I don’t see these babies hanging around.

Bridesmaids

For a unique take on bridesmaid’s dresses you can’t go wrong with Missguided! They have a whole heap of full length frocks that are bound to knock your socks off. None of which will break the bank and all of which can be worn again.

What more could you ask for?

Wedding guests

Attending a wedding means look fabulous and chic without upstaging the bride, which is sometimes not an easy task and you can end up trawling the high street for hours looking for the perfect outfit.
However I can pretty much guarantee you’ll find a dress that will suit your figure, complement the style of ceremony and make you feel amazing!

I’ve only picked out a few dresses that I think are great from the collection, why not take a gander yourself. You don’t want to miss out on one of these lovely must have wedding looks.

Designer Dupes: Chloe Drew Across Body Bag

Tuesday, April 26, 2016 Style Me Daring 0 Comments

This the second installment of my designer dupes series and this week we’re going to be focusing on a handbag that I have been lusting after for quite a while now; the Chloe Drew Leather Across Body Bag.

I adore the saddle bag style with the chain detail and the ease of being able to wear it across your body, what I don’t love about it is the £1,140.00 price tag!

So I’ve trawled the online retailers to find you guys (and myself) the closest design to this designer handbag. Hope you like them.

Dirty Little Style Bitch

This is nearest I came to a replica of the actual bag. It has the same shape and clasp, the only thing that is noticeably different is the gold chain strap and the material. Other than that I think this bag is stunning and The Chloe will only cost you £19.99.

Accessorize

I love the colour range in these bags and I think they are perfect for jazzing up any boring day outfit. If you want to keep it simple but timeless then these are the ones for you. The Jodie Saddle Bag will cost you a mere £32.00 but be quick I don’t think these babies will hang around long.

ASOS

Of course ASOS would have what I was looking for, it fact they had three, all with a unique spin! One from Fiorelli at £42.00 and two from ALDO for £45.00. These gorgeous pieces are bound to you noticed.

If you’ve seen any bags that resemble the Chloe Drew Bag or any other dupes let me know! I love a good bargain.

Designer dupes - Valentino Rockstud

Friday, April 15, 2016 Style Me Daring 0 Comments

The lure of designer shoes (or shoes in general) is so strong that sometimes I wonder how I manage to resist and then I remember that I'm not a celebrity, a trust fund baby and my job isn't exactly bringing in the big bucks. Sigh...

So for everyone in the same boat as me; lusting after designer footwear we'll probably never be able to afford, I thought I 'd find a selection of the best dupes online. Style without the hefty price tag.

Taking top place in my must have designer shoe list has to be the Valentino Rockstud.

I get pleasure just looking at these tasty morsels but there is unfortunately no way I can justify the £600 + for my very own authentic pair. However I have found some very appealing lookalikes from ASOS and Dune.

C'mon admit it these are drop dead gorgeous and rather than being a knock off they can have the very classy title of being an homage to the beautiful designs from Valentino. Plus a pair of these will only set you back £75.00.

If you're worried about the heel height then fear not! There's also a flat version; oh Dune you spoil us.

I fell so hard in love with them that I immediately treat myself to the white and nude pair. You will not be disappointed with these bad boys, I wear mine constantly and they just scream class and sophistication (what more could you want from a shoe?). Well worth the £70 I paid.

For a slightly more fashion forward version ASOS have got you covered with their brilliant range of SECRETS Pointed heels.

No matter the colour the daring design is bound to turn some heads, not to mention that if like me you're a little like Bambi on ice when it comes to walking in heels you won't have to worry. You'll be able to walk around embarrassment free and comfortable all day. There's one thing you'll like more than the sensible heel height and that's the impressive price tag of just £40.

I hope you love my dupe choices as much as I do. Keep tuned as I'll be tackling another pair of designer heels next month.

Layer by layer

Saturday, February 27, 2016 Style Me Daring 0 Comments

Layering is a great way to add more colour, texture and warmth to an outfit especially in the colder months. So I thought I'd share my favourite layered looks with you.

I love this outfit, it's stylish without being over done and it looks quite expensive (at least I think so) but nothing was over £35.00. The shirt and jeans are from ASOS, the jumper from H&M, the cape is from Missguided, the brogues from ASDA and the gorgeous bag is Henry Holland and I got it on sale at Debenhams. And the best bargain of all was the sunglasses from Primark at only £1.00!

Layering for a work day can be a little difficult so I like to keep the layers light and add a few different lengths to create a bit more interest to the outfit. Again all the pieces are affordable; the denim shirt and tights are from Primark, the jumper, shorts, shoes, belt and bag from H&M and the longline waistcoat is from Dorothy Perkins. I also got the sunglasses from H&M but from the men's department.

In honour of the passing of one of my heroes I also thought I'd include an outfit with my Bowie t-shirt. As with the looks above I try to keep costs down when it comes to fashion so the t-shirt and boyfriend jeans are from Primark and the bag is from New Look and although you can't see in this picture I also have a pair of pointed black court shoes from ASOS on.

Share your favourite layered outfit with me on Twitter now.

Makeup Guide for Brides

Tuesday, January 12, 2016 Style Me Daring 0 Comments

If you’re getting married and you want to do your own makeup then these tips should help you get a flawless look on the happiest day of your life!

Light, Camera….Flashback?

Oh no you don’t! Shut this one down right now; by swapping your usual foundation for a low or no SPF one. Even the ones with very little in them can look bad when photographed and that’s the last thing you want to see when you get the pictures of your special day.

Panda Eye are Only Cute on Pandas

Make sure you don’t end up with black teared stained tracks down face but using a waterproof mascara and eyeliner. Using a waterproof eyeliner when tight lining will also stop any transfer making its way to your water line and lower lash line.

Smokey but Subtle

If you want your eyes to be dramatic without looking too harsh or overdone then opt for a charcoal, maroon or navy eyeliner. These colours will compliment most eyes and skin tone and add colour into your look with being too heavy.

Cause Some Brow Envy

Fill in your brows to frame your eyes (even if it’s not something you do on a day to day basis). Use a pencil, powder or pomade that is close to your hair colour for the most complimentary pairing.

Blend, Blend, Blend and Then Blend Some More

Seriously; just keep going until your feels like it’s going to fall off. Cameras have a nasty little habit of picking up on even the slightest make up lines especially around your eyes.

Say No to Nude

They may look great in real life but you’ll more than likely find that you’ll look wash out in the pictures. So choose something with a pop of colour like pink even if you just put it over the top if your nude option it will still lift the face and create a more dimensional look to your lips.

Keep It Where It Belongs

Once you are done with your make up don’t forget to set it in place with either a powder or a setting spray. This will ensure that your makeup looks fresher for longer.

Now get practising!
